gifts that will outlive us

cross-stitch sampler for my love (it only took me a year)..

pattern from shakespeare's peddler, modified to add my birth name, change our hair colours, make the horse look more like a mule, and take out the yucky "obey" stuff..)

and rose beads for me..

strung and knotted with silk cord. still need to find the right clasp.

  3. I adore your sampler, Drucilla! The rose beads are lovely, I have a sheet of dried what looks like rose fruit leather, after simmering in the cast iron pot, etc. -- now it's time to grind and roll into beads -- you give me hope!!! I've been putting it off for several years, if you can believe that...but it's been in an airtight bag the whole time. ;-)

    1. oh dear, i'd love to see this rose fruit leather! will you have to re-simmer to roll? i'm still getting all the details right. i have a new batch on the stove ready to roll too. this time yellow roses, but the beads seem to turn black from the iron regardless.

    2. No, I'll just powder it now and add a bit of rosewater & essential oil to moisten and then roll. I guess it's drier than fruit leather. Will show it when I get around to doing it!

  6. SUCH an engaging and lively piece of your hands and spirit! the shade modulations on the face give her life and the up and down-ness of the lettering gives it so much charm. did you use your own wool or that came with shakespeare's set?
