Dorothy Allen
Thoughts from a Hammock

Old
hammock,
lake
(heaven?),
Citronella &
ancient
smoke;
wood-
must,
star-
dust.
Love.
(Lust?)
Mosquitoes
fly,
sun
rays
die.
Friendship
(not
bedrock);
two pairs, &
one
sock.
Breeze
blows
cold,
stars
grow
old;
moon’s wings
fold.
Sock for-
lorn, &
friendship
torn,
scorned, re-
born—
Citronella &
ancient
smoke
remain,
ingrained
(like hands’
fine
lines).
Is it heaven?
Is it?
No question.
