i'm visiting with family which is lovely, but missing my animal spirit... here she is just a few days ago.  soon, once she gets to be a little more of a mature girl, i'll be able to take her with me everywhere.

  5. She's beautiful! What's her name? I'm getting a little white and black puppy in a few weeks, when she's ready to leave mumma, and am curious about doggy names right now.

  6. Laika! that's so pretty and unusual. How did you choose it? I agree, I love getting just the right name for my critters. I just added some chickens to my flock, and had the best time watching and listening to them to know their right names. Two weeks, and they now know who they are. I'm going to visit puppy again tomorrow, she'll be 4 weeks, so I'll be able to get more idea of her personality, and I'll share her on my blog then.

    1. thank you!! the hub and i just brainstormed until we came up with it. we were also thinking of luna, and then something like zena (pronounced zhey-na, which i think is croatian for woman) and then i had a lovely croatian customer named zeljka. and anyhoo from all the different sounds we came up with laika. it turns out that there are other laikas out there too, it was the name of the first russian dog sent into space.

can't wait to see your new baby!

  7. Your Laika is beautiful! We have 4 Siberian Huskies and lots of hair. I am brushing them today, long over due too! I knew someone in Boston who weaved and was looking for husky hair.

Is it possible to make yarn from this stuff? I am going to try to save it all this time, rather than let it blow free! The squirrels and birds seem to all have husky lined nests on my land LOL

If it is possible to make yarn, I'll check out your class. Or if anyone is interested in a bag of hair, it can be had for postage, just leave a comment on my blog! SiberianGulag dot wordpress dot com

    1. it's definitely possible to make yarn from husky hair!! depending on whether it's mainly the downy undercoat or more guard hairs (which are harder to spin), sometimes it's a good thing to blend it with wool. and wool is definitely easiest to learn on. but you could totally learn to spin and then use all that lovely husky hair! i'm planning to spin some of laika's at some point and i'll share it here on the blog.
